Charlie, a man who is incredibly obese, resides alone in an Idaho apartment. In order to keep himself hidden from his pupils while encouraging them to learn more about the creative process of narrative, he is employed as a writing professor for an online institution. Charlie’s health is rapidly declining as he is always eating and in danger of heart failure, but he doesn’t seem to care. He has very limited mobility in his house. In an effort to be present for Charlie as he approaches death, a nurse by the name of Liz pays him a visit. Thomas, a young missionary enters Charlie’s apartment prepared to share the good news of salvation but also takes an interest in the giant man’s manner of life. Charlie abandoned his daughter Ellie, now 17 years old, when she was just 8 years old. In an effort to connect with his angry child and confront the anguish he has caused himself and others, Charlie offers to pay Ellie’s time, expressing hope for a reconciliation.
