Renfield, who had been sent to meet with Count Dracula to settle estate business, was transformed into the vampire’s “familiar,” spending the next decades of his life serving his master, tracking down victims to feed his lord, and experimenting with superhuman skills brought on by bug feeding. Renfield is still struggling with his identity and working on himself, but Dracula is slowly regenerating physically after losing a big battle with his adversaries. Renfield is eager to leave the vampire’s side and live as a free man, but danger chases Renfield, who is soon caught up by punk criminal Tedward, son of crime boss Bellafrancesca. Cop Rebecca is on the case, attempting to bring justice to New Orleans’ streets by responding to Renfield’s sympathy while gathering evidence demonstrating his cruelty and learning more about the past he wishes to forget.
