A Thousand and One is a powerful drama movie and its story tells about a mother who abducts her child from foster care in the year 1994 and raises him in a changing New York City landscape. The film also shows the perseverance in the face of adversity, as well as the love and loyalty between the family members. It is clearly a very positive example of diversity representation, with a black lead, a black writer and director, and themes relevant to the lives of black Americans.
