Craig, a young guy in the small Maine hamlet of Harlow, is attempting to navigate life while living with his mourning father. Craig is offered a job in 2003 by Mr. Harrigan, a wealthy and cunning businessman who wants someone to visit his house and read books to him in order to help the elderly man cope with his declining eyesight. Craig accepts the challenge and begins a tentative friendship with Harrigan. The two study and discuss great literature together, offering the elder the intellectual stimulation he craves.
