A rural town sits on edge. Meanwhile dead livestock and missing people stack up ignored by those who should care. The frogs arrive in clusters slick bodies piling over each other eyes catching stray light. However this isn’t just creature horror it feels older heavier almost ritualistic. The film leans on restraint and therefore the tension simmers instead of exploding too early. Performances feel raw even jagged at times. That works. Moreover the camera stays close too close lingering on damp skin cracked wood and water that looks poisoned. You can almost hear the humidity.
