Sinners 202 is Ryan Coogler’s interpretation of the classic tale involving a blues musician and the devil. Set in 1932, the film features Michael B. Jordan portraying twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to the Mississippi Delta after spending years in Chicago’s criminal underworld. With the money they have earned, the brothers intend to establish their own juke joint. They recruit a young guitarist named Sammie, who joins despite his pastor father’s disapproval, as the father views the blues as music of the devil. Pianist Delta Slim provides accompaniment on the keyboards, while Smoke’s estranged wife, Annie, prepares the food. Among the guests on opening night is Stack’s biracial ex-lover, Mary. The initial scenes in Sinners focus on character development and the dynamics of their relationships, illustrating how Smoke and Stack leverage their resources and influence to swiftly launch their business.
