In the past five years, Wilma and Delroy, who ran a brewery in the little town of Rust Bank, were Kat’s adoring parents. One evening, Kat inadvertently causes her father to become distracted while driving, which results in a collision that kills both of her parents. As a result of her behavioural problems, Kat was transferred to the Rust Bank Catholic Girls School for assistance.
