The world is in peril in the near future as rationing of resources forces those without access to fight for their lives. In an effort to evade the unknowable new world order, the couple Nico and Mia are making an attempt to flee from Spain to Ireland, where there is still some freedom. Mia is aware that the two are in danger because she is pregnant and military men have been sent to gather and kill mothers and children in situations like these. Nico gains access to a shipping container and hires smugglers to carry him and his wife across the Atlantic in order to wager on an escape strategy. This strategy is derailed when Mia is left alone in a container that is later carried onto a ship due to an abrupt separation. Mia is left to struggle with a lack of supplies and labor pains while frantically attempting to contact Nico in the hope that he will save her from a terrible situation after stormy weather causes the trip to be derailed and throws the steel box into the river.
