Katherine’s scary point of view opens Locked In. She was unable to talk or move her body after an event. She can, however, demonstrate that her injuries were the result of an attempted murder. Nicky, her nurse, is unusually committed to finding out what happened to her patient. The film uses a lot of flashbacks, switching between the present and the events leading up to Katherine’s injuries. Lina is introduced as her adopted daughter/daughter-in-law, and we learn about the two women’s history. Lina was taken in by Katherine, a former actress, right after her mother died. Since her husband’s death, Katherine had been caring for her ill stepson Jamie, who was set to inherit his father’s fortune. This, understandably, strained the woman’s connection with the boy.
