Jessica is a children’s book author and illustrator who is looking to connect with her stepdaughters, Taylor, an angry and angsty teen, and Alice, a younger, more gregarious youngster. When Jessica and her husband, Max, move the family to her old house, Alice becomes attached to an imaginary companion, Chauncey, worsening the already turbulent household situation and reawakening repressed feelings from Jessica’s past. What appears to be a harmless childhood rite of passage turns more menacing as Alice’s bear demands progressively disturbing behaviors from her to demonstrate their friendship before taking her on a trip.
