In 1996, Mike and Douglas, two Canadian businessmen, founded Research in Motion with the goal of pitching carriers on the idea of a phone that functions like a computer. Jim, a dishonest businessman who thinks there is money to be made in the venture known as PocketLink, recognises the men’s lack of sales expertise and offers to assist the group of talented geeks in exchange for money and power. When Jim tries to demonstrate the phone’s capabilities, he encounters Research in Motion’s laid back attitude. Jim must keep his position with Mike and the engineers in order to create a working commercial prototype known as BlackBerry. After the phone becomes a tremendous success, the team encounters difficulties as the police crack down on questionable business practises, and Mike receives a harsh education in how to handle himself professionally.
